ISO-NE CEO briefs media on state of the New England grid

January 26, 2016

Gordon van Welie updated reporters on the state of New England’s power system during the ISO’s annual ISO on Background. The briefing provided the latest facts and figures about the grid and described the continuing transformation of the region’s resource mix. Trends include continued growth of natural-gas-fired generation; more retirements of power plants that don’t use natural gas; and growing levels of resources on the customer side of the meter including solar, demand-response, and energy efficiency.

ISO-NE issues its 2015/2016 winter outlook

December 1, 2015

Electricity supplies should be sufficient to meet consumer demand for electricity in New England this winter, but constraints on the region’s natural gas pipelines could pose a challenge to reliable operation of the regional power grid. For the third winter in a row, the ISO has implemented a Winter Reliability Program to address the possibility that natural-gas-fired generators may not be able to get the fuel they need to operate during cold weather.
